Mariemont – Single-Family Homes

In addition to its public buildings, Mariemont is know for the wide variety of architectural styles of its single-family homes – resulting from the fact that Mariemont required all homebuilders to hire an architect to design the homes.  Compared to modern suburbs, what is distinctive about Mariemont’s single-family homes is how the garages – instead of protruding forward of the home – are in line or even placed behind the home.  Also, the streets are tree lined, the yards are extensively landscaped (something many modern suburbs prohibit), and the front yard are smaller than many modern suburbs – creating a sense of community and intimacy and encouraging neighbors to take walks in the evening and talk to each other.
